Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden pressed the Golden Buzzer for the second time in the 2024 competition - but viewers weren’t happy by her choice.
During the show on Sunday 12 May, Amanda was in stitches as an impressionist called Nabe took to the stage. Nabe stood in front of the judges speaking very little English and told them that he planned on doing some impressions - but what he did next shocked everyone.
He proceeded to use shaving foam to style his hair into various styles, including Disney’s Maleficent, cartoon character Snoopy and Shaun the Sheep. For his final impression, Nabe used a white shirt and a cut out of Simon Cowell's face, to transform himself into the judge and pretended his hair was Simon’s hairy chest.
Amanda was left in hysterics and to the shock of Simon, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli - Amanda pressed the Golden Buzzer. Thanks to Amanda, Nabe was put straight through to the semi-finals. She reasoned she chose Nabe because he was ‘so funny’.
She said "Normally when I press my Golden Buzzer I am in floods of tears and can't speak. This made me howl. I laughed my head off and have never seen anything like it."
Viewers took to social media to express their disbelief at Amanda’s chosen act. One viewer asked: "Seriously Amanda? The golden buzzer for that?"
Another added: "Judges hysterical, audience hysterical and the fella is just not funny. And then still having her midlife crisis Holden gives him the golden buzzer. Terrible." A third wrote: "Golden buzzer-ing this 'impressionist' has GOT to be a joke!"
Amanda first pressed the Golden Buzzer during the very first show of the series for singer Sydnie Christmas, but she also received some backlash. The 28 year old singer amazed the judges with her rendition of Tomorrow from Annie. Amanda was mesmerised by Sydnie and delivered a Golden Buzzer leaving the singer in tears.
However, Sydnie was criticised as viewers discovered she has been working as a singer. Sydnie then appeared on Lorraine to set the record straight - she’s never performed on the West End. Lorraine asked: "You've never done any of that. You've always wanted to. This is your dream isn't it?"
Sydnie replied: "I just aspire to, I want to be a leading lady. That's the dream! That's the aim." On why she opted to audition for BGT, Sydnie said she hoped it would "open a door" for her.
