Ever since Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter launched in 2018 there's been a growing trend for that sheer, illuminating make-up product that can be used in a number of ways. E.l.f., Revolution and Maybelline are amongst the other brands that have all launched their own versions of this type of product – and Dior's is the latest to hit the shelves.
Adding to the bestselling Forever complexion range, the luxury fashion house has just launched Dior Forever Glow Star Filter, a glowy skin enhancer that can be used under foundation as a primer, mixed in with foundation, or applied over the top of it as a highlighter. Available in 10 shades, it costs £45 and is available from Dior's own website as well as retailers such as Sephora, Boots and Selfridges.
Calling itself a skincare/make-up hybrid, Star Filter is made up of 94% ingredients of natural origin and claims to deliver 24-hour hydration to the skin plus a gorgeous filtered, lit-from-within glow.
It's not hard to spot the similarities to Tilbury's Flawless Filter (which isn't much cheaper, at £39) – something that shoppers have remarked upon too.
"If you’re a fan of the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter than you will definitely love this complexion filter," one happy customer wrote on the Boots website, where you can currently save £5 on Dior's Star Filter. "It does not feel heavy at all and can be worn alone or under make-up. Sooo beautiful!"
Another wrote: "I liked this a lot. It kind of reminded me of the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Filter because it gave a pretty glow and was more of a light coverage. I believe that it can be buildable and very pretty."
A third five-star review reads: "I’m blown away by this product. I have tried just about every glow product including Charlotte Tilbury and this one blows all of them out of the water. The finish is gorgeous and it is really skin-like. I will be rocking this all summer."
Beauty editor Laura Mulley agrees. "I love Flawless Filter and e.l.f. Halo Glow, and it looks like Dior Star Filter is now set to become a favourite in my line-up or glowy skin bases too. I've got shade 0 and it leaves the loveliest veil of super-fine radiance, and skin feels really soft and smooth.
"Compared to the other two brands, I'd say it had slightly less skin-coloured pigment and is slightly more light-reflective, so I wouldn't wear this on its own in place of foundation – but as a primer, it's stunning, and makes my foundation look noticeably better. Its formula is a touch drier than Tilbury's and e.l.f.'s too, so a good option if you've previously found these two move on your face."
