Emmerdale fans were left distracted when fan favourites Mark Charnock and Zoe Henry appeared on Good Morning Britain for a joint interview. The duo, who portray Marlon Dingle and Rhona Goskirk in the hit ITV soap, joined Susanna Reid and Ed Balls via video link from Emmerdale's iconic The Woolpack pub on Tuesday, 7 May.
Mark, 55, and Zoe, 50, discussed their characters' upcoming storyline, which sees their marriage begin to breakdown. The actors also spoke about the on-going abuse storyline involving Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and Tom King (James Chase).
However, fans were more distracted by Zoe's new look. The actress sported a pair of thick-rimmed white and black glasses during the interview, making her look worlds away from her soap character.
Zoe wore her brunette locks in soft curls and sported a stylish denim pinafore, complete with ruffle sleeves and a white top underneath. Fans took to social media to comment on her off-screen look, with many taken aback by her quirky eyewear.
"What she got on her face?" one person wrote. Another said: "Comedy glasses." A third simply said: "Those glasses," while a fourth added: "This style of glasses seems to be very popular now. I quite like them."
Zoe and Mark's interview comes ahead of Tuesday's (7 May) special episode of Emmerdale, which will see Marlon and Rhona come to blows in emotional scenes. The couple are forced to face their marital issues as they attend a dinner party hosted by Tom and Belle.
They are joined by Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley), Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) and Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) at the dinner party. Seeing the other couples so loved-up only makes Rhona and Marlon feel worse about their situation.
Speaking about the storyline, Zoe said: “That’s tough, it’s a stark reminder of how good they used to be together. And it’s sickening to watch, isn’t it? People in love and smooching near you when things are dire in your own relationship. In a way, how bad your marriage is feels magnified by everyone else’s intimacy.”
Rhona and Marlon attempt to be civil with one another, but when Tom raises a toast to marriage, they reach breaking point. The couple air their dirty laundry and Rhona tries to get them to leave, but Marlon refuses.
As a result, Rhona declares their marriage is over. But after everything they’ve been through, and two years of being husband and wife, it remains to be seen if their split is for good.
