Coronation Street couple Nick and Leanne are engaged for a third time after Leanne got down on one knee.
In scenes aired on Wednesday, 14 February, Leanne waited for Nick in the pub before declaring her love. She said: "I know that we've been through some really tough times but I think that is what makes us stronger so, as it's a leap year, I just wanted to ask, will you marry me?"
Nick was shocked and lost for words before finally saying: "Yes". Leanne then got up and said: "Thank goodness for that - talk about leaving me hanging!"
The pair have been on and off over the years - here's a look inside their turbulent relationship timeline...
Young love
Nick and Leanne first crossed paths when Nick, then portrayed by Adam Rickitt, came back from Canada where he was living with his Uncle Stephen in 1997. Nick fell head over heels for 16 year old Leanne, played by Jane Danson, as he lost his virginity to her. However, Gail didn't approve of their relationship, so they kept it under wraps.
Their teenage romance escalated quickly, leading to Nick popping the question to Leanne. They ran away to Gretna Green to get hitched, leaving Gail shocked when she found out. Determined to show they could stand on their own two feet, they rented a room from Ashley Peacocke at number 4 Coronation Street.
Leanne quit her hairdressing course to work at Rita's Kabin, while Nick was busy studying at college. During one of his lectures, Darren Whateley, who killed Nick's father, gave a talk about life in prison. Recognising him, Nick sought revenge.
Upon learning that Darren was up for parole, Nick began writing to him pretending to be Leanne. He mentioned this mistake when Sam was penning letters to Harvey - the man who killed his mum.
When Darren got out and showed up to see Leanne, Nick swooped in just in time to save her. As a result, Darren was sent back behind bars for violating his parole conditions.
First cracks
Nick and Leanne's relationship was strained after the incident, and they were struggling with money. Nick started modelling for art teacher Miranda Peters to help pay the bills.
Leanne thought Nick was being unfaithful and accused him in front of Miranda, even skipping his 18th birthday bash. But when Nick was attacked by Leanne's half-brother Greg Kelly, she came back to him and revealed she was expecting a baby.
Miranda encouraged Nick to ask Leanne to terminate the pregnancy. She did, but was heartbroken when he told everyone she had miscarried. Leanne confessed to Nick that she didn't love him anymore. He went back to Canada alone in 1999.
New partners
Nick returned in 2002 and began dating Maria Connor (nee Sutherland - Samia Longchambon). They moved to Canada together, but it didn't work out, and she came back alone. Nick followed her back to Weatherfield in 2003 and shared the Street's first gay kiss with sister Sarah Platt's (Tina O'Brien) boyfriend Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley).
Nick and Maria got back together, but when Leanne, who had left the cobbles in 2000, came back in 2004, she decided to stir things up. She wanted revenge on Nick and to get back at Maria for sleeping with her sister Toyah's boyfriend.
Leanne tricked Nick into coming to her flat, took a photo of them together, and sent it to Maria, who broke up with Nick. He left again for a job in Nottingham.
Weatherfield return
Nick, portrayed by Ben Price, came back to Coronation Street in 2009 to prevent Gail from marrying Joe McIntyre.
However, Leanne was dating Peter Barlow, played by Chris Gascoyne, at the time. Peter and Leanne were planning to open a bar, but Peter's drinking problem became a major issue. Nick took over the bar under the viaduct, turning it into The Joinery, and persuaded Leanne to be his bar manager.
The Joinery opened its doors in November 2010, sparking an affair between Leanne and Nick. But when a tram crash occurred in December 2010, Leanne married Peter on his deathbed, thinking he wouldn't survive.
Leanne commits to Peter
When Peter did survive, Leanne broke up with Nick, dedicated herself to her marriage, and helped Peter recover.
As Peter and Leanne were preparing for a marriage blessing on February 14, 2011, Tracy found out about Nick's affair with Leanne and told Peter. On their wedding day, Peter revealed everything and asked for a divorce. Leanne planned to leave, but Ken convinced Peter to try again and he stopped her at the station, bringing her back to Weatherfield.
However, it wasn't meant to be as Peter started seeing Carla Connor, played by Alison King, ending his marriage to Leanne once and for all. Leanne and Nick rekindled their relationship in June 2012. But Eva Price, played by Catherine Tyldesley, who had been with Nick before, tricked Nick into proposing to Leanne, knowing her half-sister would reject him.
First marriage
In a surprising twist, even though Leanne initially turned down Nick's proposal, she soon realised her love for him and popped the question herself at the Rovers. Their wedding was set for Christmas Day 2012, but things were disrupted when Peter and Carla came back to the neighbourhood, This stirred old sentiments in Leanne's heart.
On her wedding day to Nick, she decided to try again with Peter, who Carla had left, only for Carla to show up unexpectedly, leading to her marrying Nick instead. Eva, however, revealed why Leanne was tardy to her wedding during the ceremony, leading Nick to cancel everything and spend the night with his brother David's wife, Kylie Platt.
Paternity questions
Despite planning to leave, Leanne's determination made Nick realise his love for her, asking her to stay and eventually they tied the knot on January 11, 2013. However, soon after Kylie discovered that she was pregnant, but not sure who the father was.
Meanwhile, David had discovered about his wife's betrayal with his own brother and started a hate campaign against Nick. The culprit became clear to Nick and he confessed everything to David during a car ride together, who in a spur of the moment undid Nick's seatbelt and grabbed the wheel, causing a tragic crash with a truck.
The accident landed Nick in a coma for nearly two months. On recovery, he was severely brain damaged, but it felt like a miracle when Kylie introduced him to her daughter Lily while still in healing, and Nick acknowledged "mine".
Nick forced David to take a DNA test, which confirmed that David was Lily's father. But the truth came out at Lily's christening, revealing that David had tried to kill Nick. As a result, Kylie left David, and Leanne broke up with Nick.
Unrequited love
Leanne came back a few weeks later, wanting to try again with their marriage. However, Nick's mood swings and brain damage led him to shout at Simon and hit Leanne. Despite Leanne standing by him, Nick ended things in 2014, not wanting to hurt her anymore. Afterwards, Leanne started dating Kal Nazir (Jimi Mistry), who sadly passed away. Meanwhile, Nick married Carla, but it didn't last when she cheated on him with Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill).
While Leanne was helping Nick deal with his failed marriage to Carla, he began to have feelings for his ex-wife again. But she didn't feel the same way.
Baby drama
After Nick confessed his love, Leanne responded by having a one-night stand with Steve McDonald in June 2016, resulting in her getting pregnant.
She decided to leave, but Simon secretly called Nick from the coach station. Nick caught up with them, saying he knew about the baby but still loved her and wanted her to stay. Leanne admitted she loved him too, so they agreed to stay together and pretend the baby was his.
In February 2017, Steve confessed he was the biological dad of Oliver, just days after his birth. This revelation led to a punch-up with Steve's wife Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) and Nick trying to deny Steve any access to Oliver.
Despite the drama, Leanne allowed Steve to see Oliver and even put his name on the birth certificate, leaving Nick heartbroken. In May 2017, the group went to the beach to sort out their problems, but Nick ended up stuck in quicksand. After being rescued, Nick decided to leave, believing Leanne deserved better. A month later, he sold his flat, leaving Leanne, Simon and Oliver homeless and forced to move in with Steve. They got engaged, but soon realised it was a mistake and called it off.
Back on
When Leanne had a car accident in October 2018, Nick was listed as her emergency contact and he rushed to the hospital. He stayed by her side, and when she woke up, she told him she loved him. But once she came to her senses, she asked him to leave.
Nick didn't give up and eventually won her back, only for Leanne to discover he had a secret wife, Elsa. Despite this, Leanne took him back after he promised no more secrets. However, Nick then stole £80K from his grandmother, Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls)!
Since then, Leanne and Nick have faced a lot of challenges. Leanne sadly lost her young son, Oliver to mitochondrial disease, while Nick found out he had a son named Sam with his ex-girlfriend Natasha Blakeman.
Will this finally be their happily ever after?
