When it comes to footwear, loafers are a tried and true classic that never goes out of style. Timeless, sophisticated and perfect for nailing a whole host of different looks, no wardrobe is complete without a pair of the iconic shoes, as Princess Diana knew all too well.
The late Princess of Wales was often spotted wearing a pair whilst off duty, and one of her most recognisable outfits saw her wearing a brown and cream pair of pointed loafers with white skinny jeans, a white T-shirt and a khaki blazer whilst shopping in Knightsbridge, London, in 1994. The look is the perfect embodiment of the quiet luxury aesthetic, and if you want to recreate it, La Redoute’s Two-Tone Leather Loafers, £79.20 here (was £99), are the perfect way to do it.
Diana’s loafers had cream panelling on the top and a tan leather outer and decorative strap over the top. They also featured a slightly pointed toe and completely flat sole, making them perfect for an afternoon out and about.
Just like Princess Diana’s pair, La Redoute’s loafers come in a chic tan and cream colourway with an ultra-low heel measuring just 2.5cm high. The loafers have a slightly more rounded toe style compared to Diana’s pointed ones, however this makes them even more timeless.
This combined with the fact they’re made from 100% leather, with leather cushioning and lining too, means they’re durable and high quality and should last you year after year of wear. They can be worn throughout every season and are also super easy to style, looking great with everything from skinny jeans and wide leg trousers to denim shorts and midi dresses.
The loafers are currently included in La Redoute’s spring sale which sees the price slashed from £99 to £79.20 – a bargain considering the glowing reviews they’ve received from shoppers.
“Lovely classy loafer and very comfortable too and got them at a bargain price in the sale” said one, whilst another wrote: “Great value for a pair of leather loafers. Bang on trend with the two-tone, perfect for work or dress down with jeans. Love them. Size is standard 38, UK5.”
If despite their sale price they’re still a little out of your budget, we also spotted a similar pair on ASOS that gets you the look for less. The Stradivarius Loafer in Tan and White, £22.99 here, have a very similar look but come in a slightly darker shade of brown and are made from faux leather, rather than real leather like the La Redoute pair.
If you want more Diana-inspired looks, Molly-Mae Hague's Brown Houndstooth Shoulder Padded Oversized Curved Hem Blazer has been reduced to £23.35 here (was £39) in the PrettyLittleThing spring sale, and was influenced by another of Diana’s signature stylish looks.
