James Wessex, the Earl of Wessex, caused quite a stir among royal fans with his humorous tie choice during his recent Easter Sunday appearance in Windsor. The son of Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie looked dapper in a navy blue suit as he joined the rest of the Royal Family for the annual Easter Mattins service at St George's Chapel.
Underneath his navy suit, James wore a crisp white shirt. However, it was his comical tie that really caught everyone's eye - a choice that his uncle, King Charles, would undoubtedly appreciate.
The monarch is known for his fondness for novelty and patterned ties to add a bit of flair or a hidden message to his outfits. Charles famously donned a tie featuring a Greek flag design at Cop28 last year following a diplomatic incident between Britain and Greece.
He has also been seen wearing his notorious pink tie adorned with a light blue tyrannosaurus rex pattern - a playful nod to his nickname derived from his insignia, Charles Rex, reports the Express.
Meanwhile, the Earl of Wessex chose a turquoise blue tie decorated with white bunnies. The Down A Rabbit Hole Print Silk Tie is a product of British menswear retailer Charles Tyrwhitt and is priced at a very reasonable £34.95 (currently sold out). Meanwhile, his father also opted for a navy blue tie, dubbed his 'Easter favourite' by many, which was adorned with pink chicks.
Royal fans couldn't resist gushing over the young royal's adorable fashion choice, offering their own two cents. One social media user commented on X: "This tie is adorable! ! ! " while another chimed in: "But it's cute and appropriate for Easter."
A third concurred with these sentiments, asserting: "It is and I am so happy to see him wearing a whimsical tie, much like his father and uncle." Meanwhile, a fourth fan playfully declared: "James now officially included in #TheRoyalFunkyTiesClub! (sic)".
James, 16, is not expected to step up as a senior working royal in the future and is more likely to look at enjoy his time as a young man and could follow his sister, Lady Louise, to university. Speaking to OK! Jennie Bond said: "James is currently gearing up for the first big test of his school life….his GCSE’s. Like most 16 year olds, it’s a tough time for him - although it’s unlikely that his results will be made public. That’s in tune with the rest of his upbringing where his parents have tried very hard to allow James as normal an upbringing as possible - given his heritage. And, by and large, they have succeeded."
Regarding his future, Jennie added: "I think we can expect James to follow his ambitions and not necessarily take the traditional royal route of military service. He will probably try for University and then work out a career path. He can draw on the experience of his royal cousins, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, who have made their own way."
