Princess Beatrice has given fans an update regarding her mother Sarah, Duchess of York’s health during a rare TV appearance.
Princess Beatrice appeared on This Morning on Monday, 6 May where she shared the happy news with presenters Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle that her mother was “doing really well” and that she was “thriving”.
Last summer Sarah, Duchess of York revealed that she’d undergone a “successful” operation after a routine mammogram detected breast cancer. Then just months later, she revealed that she’d been diagnosed with malignant melanoma.
Speaking on This Morning, Princess Beatrice, 35, paid tribute to her “amazing” mum and gushed over the “resilience” that she’d shown.
“She's such a phenomenal icon. As a mum she's been amazing. She's been through so much and her sense of purpose and resilience really keeps me going,” she said.
“She's doing really well, thank you Josie. She had a bumpy health scare last year but she's all clear now. But I think at 64, she's thriving, she's been through so much, but now she's coming into her own.”
The royal then went on to discuss the importance of getting concerns checked out as early as possible and added how “lucky” she felt to live somewhere where that was possible.
“We’re really lucky in the UK to make sure you can get those checks as best as you can and hopefully we can be there to support each other when anyone goes through a health scare,” she added.
In response to her interview on This Morning, viewers at home took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to praise Princess Beatrice for her slot on the show.
“Princess Beatrice was great on #thismorning,” wrote one social media user. “To be fair how well did Princess Beatrice come across in this interview with Craig and Josie. #thismorning,” another added.
“How lovely is Princess Beatrice she seems down to earth! #thismorning,” a third commented. Meanwhile a fourth wrote: “#thismorning how lovely is princess Beatrice the young royal family are really taking the lead now”.
The news comes just over a month after Sarah, Duchess of York, 64, offered her support to Kate Middleton after she revealed that she’d been diagnosed with cancer.
In a heartfelt post uploaded to Instagram on Monday, 25 March, the mum-of-two sent her “thoughts and prayers” to the Princess of Wales.
“All my thoughts and prayers are with the Princess of Wales as she starts her treatment. I know she will be surrounded by the love of her family and everyone is praying for the best outcome,” she wrote.
“As someone who has faced their own battles with cancer in recent months, I am full of admiration for the way she has spoken publicly about her diagnosis and know it will do a tremendous amount of good to raise awareness. I hope she will now be given the time, space and privacy to heal.”
