Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II was the longest reigning monarch in British history and became the first to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. Born in London on April 21, 1926 to The Duke and Duchess of York, Princess Elizabeth never had any expectation of the future that lay before her, but the abdication of her uncle King Edward VIII in 1936 rocked the Royal Family and propelled the unprepared King George VI onto the throne. At the age of 25, Princess Elizabeth succeeded her father and was instantly very popular. Throughout her reign, the Queen was ably supported by her “strength and stay” of 73-years, Prince Philip. The couple married in 1947 and had four children: King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. Her Majesty died at Balmoral Castle on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96 and is buried in the King George VI Memorial Chapel in St George's Chapel, Windsor.
