Two weeks after the trailer dropped, Scoop has finally been released on Netflix. The film, which features stars including Billie Piper and Keeley Hawes, is a fictional dramatisation that chronicles the lead up and aftermath of Prince Andrew's famous Newsnight interview in 2019.
Based on the book Scoops, written by former Newsnight producer Sam McAlister, at the centre of the Netflix film is Rufus Sewell, who takes on the role of Prince Andrew as he is interviewed by Emily Maitlis, played by Gillian Anderson.
So, as viewers get set to see Rufus take on his latest role, let’s take a peek at the actor’s life off screen…
Born in London, 56 year old Rufus has secured a range of credits on the big and small screen, including in films such as Hercules, Judy and The Father. In 2006 he appeared in the iconic film The Holiday where he played Jasper Bloom.
Back in December, it was revealed that Rufus had gotten engaged to his partner Vivian Benitez, with the actress posting a snap on Instagram which showed a stunning ring on her finger.
“Til death, (or him continuing to walk on bathmats with his outside shoes) do us part,” she wrote alongside the snap.
In the past Rufus has been romantically linked to actress Kate Winslet, Helen McCrory and Alice Eve and he has been married twice.
In 1999 he tied the knot with fashion journalist Yasmin Abdallah, though they called time on their relationship in 2000. Then in 2004 he said ‘I do’ to scriptwriter and producer Amy Gardner and the pair share a son, Billy, together. Sadly in 2006 Rufus and Amy went their separate ways.
In 2013, Rufus gave a glimpse into his life as a parent during an interview with The Guardian and explained that Billy had seen some of his film work, but only while watching them at other people’s homes.
“I haven't sat him down and said: 'Take a look at your dad, son.' He's watched A Knight's Tale and stuff. That's clever, daft fun. The kind of thing you can enjoy, once you've got over the idea of Daddy being the quintessence of evil…,” he said.
The Scoop star also has a daughter called Lola, whom he shares with Ami Komai. Speaking to The Telegraph in 2021, the actor called his personal life a “rocky road” and explained that during lockdown he was either “looking forward to having a day off or looking forward to having her back”.
