Popular royal couple Zara and Mike Tindall have recently returned to the UK from a holiday to Iceland. Seemingly without their three children, Mia, 10, Lena, five, and Lucas, two, the pair clearly had a great time away as Mike offered an insight into the trip on his Instagram account.

With visits to Reykjavík and the black sand beaches, before enjoying some retail therapy, Mike and Zara shared several sweet selfie's with Mike's 592K followers. Their return from the country was followed by a key appearance in Windsor to remember King Constantine II of Greece - which preceded the sad announcement of the death of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent's son-in-law, Thomas Kingston.

Alongside several pictures and Instagram stories from the once-in-a-lifetime trip, Mike wrote in the caption: "Life is short; the world is wide. I want to make some memories," before adding: "Iceland, thank you. What a place!"

In one snap, they looked relaxed as they posed in snorkelling gear and woolly hats after taking advantage of Iceland's natural beauty and exploring its glacier waters. Elsewhere, the couple took to rainbow street in Reykjavík, a road dedicated to celebrating diversity. Then, staying true to his reputation as the Royal Family's jokester, Mike shared a photo of himself trying on a fur hat.

Upon their return to the UK, Zara and Mike joined other members of the Royal Family to attend a service at St George's Chapel, Windsor to celebrate the life of the late Greek King, Constantine II. Arriving with Princess Anne, the pair joined the likes of Princess Alexandra, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Prince Andrew, who was joined by Sarah, Duchess of York.

Foreign royalty was also out in force as the Greek Royal Family, including the King's widow Queen Anne-Marie, were joined by King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, as well as the former Spanish monarch, Juan Carlos I. This service was followed by the tragic news of the death of Lady Gabriella Kingston's husband, Thomas Kingston, at the age of 45.

A statement on behalf of the family read: “It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother. Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. His death has come as a great shock to the whole family and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing.”

Thomas was found dead at an address in Gloucestershire on Sunday evening. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 6pm. An inquest will be held to establish the cause of death but there are no suspicious circumstances and no other parties involved.

After the family announced his tragic death, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “The King and the Queen have been informed of Thomas’s death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in grieving a much-loved member of the family. In particular, Their Majesties send their most heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Gabriella and to all the Kingston family."
